Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
We are seeking a skilled and professional Remote Sign LanguageInterpreter to support K12 students in Oklahoma schools. This fully remote role involves providing accurate and clear ASL interpretation services to facilitate communication between Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, their peers, educators, and families within the school setting.
The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting in educational environments, be knowledgeable of Oklahomas education policies, and be committed to fostering inclusive and accessible learning environments.
ResponsibilitiesProvide high-quality, real-time ASL interpretation during virtual classes, IEP meetings, and other school-related events.
Facilitate effective communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students, teachers, staff, and families.
Interpret spoken English into ASL and vice versa with accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure accessibility and appropriate accommodations for students.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications.
Adhere to Oklahoma Department of Education policies and best practices in educational interpreting.
Participate in professional development to stay current with interpreting techniques and educational trends.
Certification as a RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Certified Interpreter or equivalent credential.
Experience with ASL interpretation in K12 educational settings preferred.
Knowledge of Oklahoma educational laws and policies related to Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Fluent proficiency in American Sign Language and English.
Strong interpreting skills in both simultaneous and consecutive modes.
Ability to work effectively in a remote virtual environment using platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse school teams.
Cultural competence and sensitivity toward Deaf culture and community.
Experience with interpreting for students with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Familiarity with educational terminology and special education processes.
Bilingual skills beyond ASL and English are a plus.
