Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Chef

Reports To: Private Estate Executive Chef

Pay Rate: $30 per hour

Supplemental pay types: Overtime pay

Job Type: Full-time

Expected hours a week: 40+

Weekly day range: Monday - Friday 

Shift: 8 hour shift / other

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and talented chef assistant to join our household team in a private residence. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Executive Chef, cooking and managing food and beverages for multiple properties. This is a unique opportunity to work in an intimate, fast-paced environment where attention to detail and a passion for food are highly valued. The regular working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, please note that flexibility is required to accommodate client needs, which may include:

  • Overtime
  • Weeknights
  • Weekends
  • Holidays

Responsibilities

Culinary: Assist Executive Chef with meal planning, grocery shopping, and preparations for all meals served. Cook meals according to the chef’s instructions, maintaining high standards of taste and presentation. Source and order high-quality ingredients, keeping track of inventory and ensuring freshness.

Cleanliness and Organization: Always prioritize kitchen hygiene and food safety. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.

Communication: Maintain clear and open lines of communication with the Executive Chef and other team members.

Inventory management: Assist with managing inventory of food and beverages throughout all properties.

Adaptability: Ability to pivot in response to last-minute schedule changes, unexpected location shifts, and other unforeseen circumstances, with a focus on finding solutions.

Qualifications:

Culinary:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen environment
  • Strong foundation in various cuisines, ingredients, and cooking techniques.
  • Proficiency in fundamental skills, including:
  • Butchery: basic meat handling and preparationBaking: fundamental pastry and dessert preparationPasta-making: basic hand-crafted pasta skills
  • Events and catering experience (a plus)

Physical Stamina: While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; and taste or smell. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights and holidays.

Communication: Good verbal communication skills with the ability to follow instructions and relay information effectively.

Transportation: Reliable personal transportation is required.

Miscellaneous Tasks: Perform other related duties as assigned by Executive Chef or Property Manager.

Work Environment: Work performed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment at room temperature.
